Hey goal setter. 

I hear you're looking for some goal setting strategies before setting some goals for 2017. We won't call them New Year's Resolutions, because everyone knows those get left behind by Valentine's Day. But if you want to know how to reach your goals, read on.  

Maybe you want to lose weight, so you've joined a gym.

Or you've committed to eating more greens, so you got a Vitamix for Christmas – because everyone knows green smoothies are the best.

Or maybe you're ready to find a career that inspires you, so you're exploring a local networking group. 

But what makes this year different than last? You've made these moves before, so why aren't you crushing your goals and setting new ones this year?

The problem isn't you, beautiful. You're not lazy. Your standards aren't too high. It's not your willpower. 

The biggest goal setting strategy I can give you is to set up a support and accountability system from the start. When you want to go beyond a life that looks good on paper, you've got to dig deep and take the time to reflect. You've got to be honest with yourself, and take a look at what areas of your life you're prioritizing. And more importantly? Which areas aren't a priority.

In short, you've got to coach yourself.

If you've set the goal that you want to start working out three days a week, but you find that something keeps getting in the way, ask yourself how much of a priority that goal really is. If you choose to go out with friends or stay up late watching Netflix week after week, how important is it really for you to get 8 hours of sleep every night?

A coach provides the structure, consistency and information you need to make changes. But without that accountability and the tools to make goals turn into habits, your dreams slip by the wayside year after year, and every December 31st starts to feel like Groundhog Day.
